Since 1959, there was a disturbing reality occurring in our Cuba, within the Catholic churches: Catholics were losing their faith and the faithful had lost sight of Christ's message. That is why everything we do in CRISTO EN CUBA assumes one critical point: That everyone can be TRANSFORMED if given the chance to experience true conversion that occurs when one has a personal encounter with Jesus AND participates in the life of the Church SERVING others who need it the most. But if this initial conversion never takes place, then whatever catechesis is presented later makes no sense. If this initial conversion never takes place, Jesus remains someone who they know about, but they may never come to know him in a profound, life-changing way.
That is why we do what we do!
STRENGTHENING
THE CUBAN CATHOLIC CHURCH We are committed to supporting the expansion of ministry, participation, and growth of all parishes in Cuba by helping the Cuban Catholic Church fulfill its mission to help more people meet, know and follow Jesus. |
THROUGH EVANGELIZATION
VIA EMMAUS RETREATS Through the implementation of Emmaus Retreats in Cuba, we are answering God's calling by discipling men and women to be faithful leaders at home and in the church. |
AND SERVING THE UNDERPRIVILEGED
The Emmaus model is simple, straightforward and reproducible: get to know the risen CHRIST through the testimony of others – and then go live a life of service at home, your parish, and your community for the glory of God and the good of others. |
WHAT IS EMMAUS? WHY EMMAUS RETREATS?
Emmaus is a parish specific brotherhood and sisterhood in Christ, of the Catholic Church. It is composed of people who have accepted Christ at Emmaus retreats, and TRANSFORMED their lives. Emmaus was founded by Myrna Gallagher in 1978 in the South Florida parish of St. Louis, with the goal of evangelizing and growing the parish’s female flock. The retreats were a huge success and began extending to men in separate retreats in 1985. Soon after, the retreats were conducted in English and Spanish throughout the United States.
Today, Emmaus is present in: 18 COUNTRIES, 4 CONTINENTS and over 800 PARISHES. Emmaus retreats are a very effective and efficient form of EVANGELIZATION for people thirsting for god. During the last 34 years, The retreats have TRANSFORMED millions of lives, bringing them peace, hope, faith, and Christian love to their very difficult circumstances. |
THE PURPOSE OF EMMAUS IS TO:
- Fish men and women for Christ via Emmaus retreats so they can TRANSFORM their lives and find peace, hope, happiness and Christian love, and;
- Work with their respective parishes to SERVE the community and those with special needs.
EMMAUS RETREATS IN CUBA
Prior to CRISTO EN CUBA, it took about 15 years to implement 17 EMMAUS retreats in Cuba; 14 of men and 3 of women. Even though there are 11 dioceses in Cuba, nearly all of the retreats were conducted in one diocese: Santa Clara.
In spite of the Coronavirus putting a halt to Emmaus retreats in Cuba for 2 ½ years, since December 2018 Cristo En Cuba has planned, funded and conducted 22 Emmaus retreats in Cuba giving it presence in 6 of the 11 Dioceses in Cuba comprising in approximately 65% of the population. Due to Cuba's hunger for CHRIST, CRISTO EN CUBA plans to continue to TRANSFORM LIVES taking CHRIST's message of PEACE, HOPE, FAITH, HAPPINESS and CHRISTIAN LOVE to all corners of Cuba. |
